Debra La Velle - FROM NOW ON (2025)

‘From Now On’ was launched on Valentines Day 14th February 2025 at the prestige ‘Kelvin Club’ (Melb).

This album is a dream come true, since cutting my teeth at The Merimbula Jazz Festival at the age of 24. I deviated over the years, singing in different bands & shows, broadening musical horizons, though often returning to my jazz roots.

On Australia Day 2024 seven tracks were laid down live with band members, and our highly skilled bassist/ex ABC sound engineer James Clark in his impressive studio in picturesque Riddles Creek. The plan was to end up with a time efficient, affordable capture of tunes. Six months later a further four tracks were recorded to complete the album.

The finished product ended up a mixed bag of beautiful spontaneous collaborations, consisting of five standards, six handpicked original tunes from my unreleased stockpile (one co-written with guitarist Shane Ryall), plus the 2021 lockdown Single ‘Chasing Moonbeams’ which charted number one back then in the Amrap charts.

Tunes are a carefully thought out mixture of genres, feels & rhythms ranging from Swing, Blues, Latin, Gypsy, Dixieland, lullabies & ballads…showcasing sweet, sultry and vibrant vocals within a beautiful instrumental bed, glued together with some stunning, melodic and finely skilled solos.

This album features some of Melbourne’s most highly respected working musicians whom I have had the pleasure to know for 30 years, and feel honoured to have on board:
