Fülöp Ránki is an outstandingly talented pianist, as the audience of the House of Music Hungary will already know from his sold-out Kodály concert in 2022. His parents – Edit Klukon and Dezső Ránki – are renowned pianists and he himself stepped out onto the stage for the first time at a very young age. It was also in his youth that he became a lecturer at the Liszt Academy. As part of the Hungaroton album launch series, Fülöp Ránki’s Liszt album, which will be released on March 7, will be heard live for the first time.

The performer revealed the following about the album LISZT: Legends, Prayers, Poems, Waltzes: “For me, Liszt is a composer of contemplation. His music did not allow him to become entrenched in strict forms, and whenever he touched his earlier compositions, he altered them. The central role of improvisation and invention in his creative activity presupposes the presence of attention and openness. With his faith strengthened through deep and great suffering, this attention and openness turned to reverence and contemplation. The fruits of this contemplation are the pieces on this album and span four decades: essentially the second half of Liszt’s life.”

Fülöp Ránki continued his musical studies in Budapest. He began playing piano by ear and then studied under Erika Becht and Edit Hambalkó. At the Liszt Academy, he attended classes held by Jenő Jandó, István Lantos and Rita Wagner. He has been a teacher at the university since 2021 and his first album featuring performances of Bartók’s works was released by Naxos in the same year. He regularly performs in Hungary and throughout Europe, and he has also appeared in Japan and China. Together with his parents, Edit Klukon and Dezső Ránki, he performs pieces for three pianos. As a soloist, he has played alongside or under the direction of Heinz Holliger, András Keller, Zoltán Kocsis, and Maxim Vengerov, among others.

After the concert, Gergely Fazekas will have a conversation with Fülöp Ránki. Following the album launch, there will be an opportunity to purchase the new CD at the venue and have it signed by Fülöp Ránki himself.
