Collage’s 1984 EP Mit den Puppen tanzen is being reissued as a limited 400-copy release, marking a rediscovery of a key German Electro and NDW gem. Originally released on the small F-Music label, the EP became a sought-after collector’s item, featuring intense lyrics by singer Kathrin A. Kunze and music by Markus Kammann and Jürgen Grah.
Kammann and Grah, both from Solingen, had previously worked on the new wave project Schwarze Bewegung before forming Collage with Kunze, who moved to Wuppertal to study literature. Influenced by Kraftwerk and Afrika Bambaataa, they incorporated elements of early electro-funk and hip-hop, using a Roland TR-808, JUNO-60, and unique tape-based scratching techniques.
The EP was recorded in Düsseldorf with legendary sound technician Werner Lambertz but never received proper promotion, leading to limited independent distribution. Despite label interest, an unreleased album was shelved when the group refused to replace Kunze with Inga Humpe.
In 1987, Kammann, Grah, and Kunze formed Cold End, releasing another rare 12" single. Now, Mit den Puppen tanzen is reissued with its original artwork, available in 200 black and 200 blue transparent vinyl editions, making it a must-have for collectors and DJs.
