VENTILATEUR is an instrumental project combining sounds from the vivid worlds of contemporary jazz and postpunk. The three-piece band, consisting of Iben Stalpaert on drums, Jasper Hollevoet on bass and Daan Soenens on guitar, uses angular rhythms and flowing melodies to construct compositions that embody both contrast and cohesion. Originally from Bruges, the band currently has Ghent as its homebase.
After their debut album Hoofdplaat in 2022, the band is now releasing their second full album in
February 2025. To contrast their last album, Hoofdplaat, the band chose to collaborate with other musicians to further enrich their sound and form a sonic landscape that feels alive and vibrant. The title, Rage De Vivre, emphasizes this focus on energy and zest for life.
For Rage De Vivre, the band worked together with Nathan Daems (Echoes of Zoo, Black Flower) on saxophone and Patricia Vanneste (Balthazar, Sohnarr) on violin as featuring musicians. Three other songs are accompanied by vocals. These voices are provided by Luca Missiaen (The Christian Club, Barno Koevoet & The Duijmschpijkers), Naomi Sijmons (Reena Riot) and actor Sebastien Dewaele.
For the first time, VENTILATEUR makes use of voices to be able to further materialize the concepts that shaped the album. Choosing a more direct route than the often perceived abstraction of instrumental music.
The result is an album full of unique sounding songs bordering between jazz and postpunk. Two rebellion genres with a lust for life, which combined, sound like Rage De Vivre.
