Discrepant regular Grup Ses teams up with composer and sound designer Gökalp Kanatsız on this one, rustling up a fusion of hip-hop, grime, dubstep and Turkish folk that features guest appearances from Turkish MC Ethnique Punch, multi-instrumentalist Elektro Hafız and turntablist DJ Syr.
In the works for two years, the Istanbul duo's debut album hazes distorted oud riffs and Turkish percussion with beat scene boom-bap loops and booming subs, twisting the edges with hallucinogenic GRM dub sonix. It's nothing particularly revolutionary, but the music holds its own: Bremen-based performer Ethnique Punch's fast raps on 'Hane-i Can' add an important extra element to Grup Ses and Gökalp Kanatsız's stumbled beats, and 'Tieron' imagines what jungle might sound like if it had evolved in Anatolia.
