Brilliantly burning live material from the great trumpeter Lee Morgan -- a San Francisco performance done slightly before Lee's famous extended 1970 set at the Lighthouse, and with a very similar vibe! The tracks here are nice and long, and filled with that searching energy that Morgan brought to his music during these last few years of his life -- and the well-matched combo features loads of bold piano lines from Harold Mabern, plus tenor from Bennie Maupin, bass from Jymie Merritt, and drums from Mickey Roker -- a really special, magical combination who make the performance way more than just a rehash of familiar Lee Morgan themes.
