Gaza - Playback (2025)

Tribak is excited to present our reissue series, *TimeClapse*, spotlighting the golden era of bedroom producers from 1999-2006 in West Jerusalem. This series will bring to light rare and previously unavailable music, straight from our vaults, now for the first time in digital format.

Our second release in the series is *Playback* by Gaza, originally released on Fact Records in 2002.

Gaza, formed by Alon Ovnat and Yayehe S. Mehari in 1997, emerged from the vibrant jams of the Electronic Front Collective, a group known for their raw raves.

The duo took their name from their first studio’s location on Gaza Street and their shared admiration for footballer Paul Gascoigne. Their sound is a fusion of worlds, blending hip-hop, dub, IDM, and electro into a distinctive and captivating mix.

*Playback* was released by Fact Records, Israel's pioneering DIY label, which operated out of the iconic Balance record shop. With over 50 releases, Fact Records left a significant mark on Jerusalem’s electronic music scene.

Created at a time when albums were revered and electronic music found a home in living rooms, *Playback* offers a dynamic range of tracks, from the rave energy of "Speedy Jam" to the glitchy textures of "Plastic Ticks", the groovy "Visetor," and the uplifting "U&I.

This reissue is dedicated to DJ Yayehe, who sadly passed away in 2021. In his memory, we are committed to reissuing all his works, including unreleased material. His music will continue to resonate through time and space.

The new cover, designed by Avi Bohbot, features scans of documents from the Jerusalem archive, adding a layer of historical depth to this release.
