The three pillars of flamenco are dance, song and guitar. In his album “Al Toque” (Karonte 2021), Caminero explored the flamenco guitar from a unique perspective, covering great works for his trio with Moisés Sánchez on piano and Paquito González on percussion. Now, with “Al cante”, he is seeking to integrate the voice of Jerez's David Carpio into his jazz-flamenco repertoire. This new project takes advantage of the modular structure of flamenco, which generally alternates songs compás and falsetas, to combine the melodies and solos of the trio with the strength of David Carpio's singing. In this way, they explore new ways of making a jazz-flamenco trio and a singer coexist musically. After more than a decade of playing with guitar master Gerardo Núñez, Caminero has become a regular in the world of flamenco. During this journey, he met David Carpio, with whom he has already collaborated on the show “Solos” and on some songs from the album “Con la Voz en la Tierra” (2019). It was only a matter of time before they got together again for a project like this, which represents both a musical and stylistic challenge, where pieces apparently from different worlds find their common place, creating a fluid and natural sound. The Caminero jazz trio is composed of Daniel García Diego on piano, Shayan Fathi on drums and of course Pablo Martín Caminero on double bass, musicians with a deep knowledge of jazz-flamenco. With its wealth of experience, the trio accompanies the singing of David Carpio, not forgetting the guitar, that “house” instrument so present in flamenco. “Al cante” is both a jazz-flamenco concert and a singing recital, offering a unique experience that connects the two worlds.
