Only one surname PETRUCCIANI, names: Louis and Michel who distill to us a music in total osmosis coming from the stars, rhythmic, sweet, devilish. A tribute to the great jazz composers that transports us out of this same music. Both are virtuoso instrumentalists and the pleasure lies in the meeting of two great musicians: one would like this to last again and again. Michel would have been 50 years old this year, and what better tribute could we ask for than to share these unique musical moments with the audience? This album recorded live and in the studio in 1989 and 1990, totally unreleased (except Stella By Starlight), was only the subject of a private publication in 1990 by Louis Petrucciani. Michel PETRUCCIANI, a great of world jazz. It all started in 1962 in Orange, where the future pianist was born into a modest family, passionate about jazz. The child is suffering from a terrible disease that impedes his development and makes his bones extremely fragile. Even as a boy, Michel had a prodigious musical talent, encouraged by his father who allowed him to sing jazz classics at the age of 3, to play the piano at 7 and to accompany the American trumpeter Clark Terry at the age of 13. "He played like a disillusioned old black man, lost in a piano bar somewhere in Mexico" comments the trumpeter.Michel playing the piano against illness, determination and will against the weakness of the body, joy against suffering, charm against deformity. Life against death, in a word, but a life burned at both ends, lived at 1000 miles an hour always at the risk of running into a fatal encounter. "Michael is the rage of music." He used up what little health he had, he burned his fingers on the piano. And success is waiting. From his meeting with the drummer Aldo Romano, who tenderly carries him on stage in his arms at his piano, five albums were born between 1981 and 1985. Then came the American adventure, the jazz paradise, a decisive meeting with the saxophonist Charles Lloyd with whom he toured the world. The consecration in New York in the famous Village Vanguard club and the contract with Blue Note, the rest is history. Member of a famous family of musicians known throughout the world, Louis PETRUCCIANI has been active on the jazz scene for more than four decades, and is today an important figure in European jazz. After a solid classical education, enriched by the intense and assiduous practice of jazz with the family trio, he went to perfect his study of the double bass in Rochester, America, where he studied with Chuck Israel and Percy Heath. Back in France he collaborated with Barre Philips for three years. He participated in many different musical experiences with Lenny White, Horace Parlan, Bobby Few, Lee Konitz, Claude Nougaro, Bernard Lubat, Aldo Romano, Talib Kibwe, not to forget his father Tony and brother Michel, with whom he performed countless tours. He participates in more than twenty albums as an accompanist, five albums with his brother Michel, one live in Japan with Lenny White, he is the author of five albums under his own name and one DVD. Louis PETRUCCIANI today distills impeccable instrumental expression, through a musical narrative that literally brings you music that speaks of life, stars, love and humor.
