Tracklist
01. Symphony in D Minor: I. Allegro ma non troppo
02. Symphony in D Minor: II. Scherzo. Allegro scherzando
03. Symphony in D Minor: III. Sehr innig und breit
04. Symphony No. 3 in B-Flat Major: I. Sostenuto
05. Symphony No. 3 in B-Flat Major: II. Scherzo
06. Symphony No. 3 in B-Flat Major: III. Adagio
07. Symphony No. 3 in B-Flat Major: IV. Moderato
Zemlinsky wrote his two completed symphonies very early in his career (an earlier Symphony in E minor survives incomplete), and was only 28 by the time he had composed them. However, through the influences of Brahms, Wagner and Dvorák a unique late Romantic voice can already be heard, paving the way for his later operatic successes. A fascinating insight into rare repertoire, and the early development of one of the great neglected composers of the 20th century.
