Christine McVie is the second solo album by the wonderful English keyboardist, singer and songwriter Christine McVie, better known as a member of the Fleetwood Mac band, released in the UK on February 3, 1984 on the Warner Bros. label. Records. This is McVie's first solo album in more than a decade after her 1970 debut album, released under her maiden name. The album featured such famous musicians as Steve Winwood, Eric Clapton, Ray Cooper and her Fleetwood Mac bandmates Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood.
The recording process lasted three months and mostly took place in Montreux, Switzerland. McVie worked closely with guitarist Todd Sharp to co-write most of the material, and invited Sharp, George Hawkins, and Steve Ferron to create the album's musical score. The finished album included two singles that reached the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart: "Got a Hold on Me" and "Love Will Show Us How", which took 10th and 30th places respectively. "Got a Hold on Me" also stayed at number one on the Adult Contemporary chart for four weeks. The album itself spent 23 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart, peaking at number 26 and peaking at number 58 in the UK.
The release of the Christine McVie album coincided with the screening of two special editions on MTV: a documentary about the recording of the album and a concert held in December 1983 at the Los Angeles Country Club. Both special editions were included in the laserdisc edition of the album, while "Christine McVie: The Video Album", the home video release, included only the concert. To support the album, McVie also embarked on a three-month tour from April to June 1984. Her setlist included various tracks from the album along with selected Fleetwood Mac hits. The tour featured Sharp, Hawkins, and Ferrona, as well as keyboardist Eddie Quintela—McVie's boyfriend at the time—and guitarist Stephen Bruton.
