Australian performer who recorded his only album, ‘So What If I’m Standing In Apricot Jam’, in Tasmania in 1974.
Australian actor-turned-musician Howard Eynon spent most of his childhood on a farm in rural Tasmania before leaving for Melbourne at age 17 to try his hand at theater. Throughout the '70s and early '80s Eynon worked in small productions in and around Melbourne, pursuing music mostly as a hobby. While traveling around the country participating in various shows and talent competitions, Eynon met producer Nick Armstrong, who invited him into the studio to work on a full-length album. The result of several months of recording was Eynon's sole recorded output, So What If I'm Standing in Apricot Jam, a whimsical and often goofy collection of acoustic psych-folk on par with the more playful side of demented songwriters like Kevin Ayers and Syd Barrett. The album was released in 1974 and quickly went out of print, seeing reissue again 40 years later on the Earth Recordings imprint. Little is known of what became of Eynon after some theatrical appearances in the early '80s. ~ Fred Thomas
