Leeds collective Honesty twist clapped club sounds with goth-y pop on their debut album, snaking from big beat and dnb to trip-hop and future garage.
Not exactly a band, Honesty are four core members - George Mitchell, Matt Peel, Josh Lewis and Imi Marston - and a team of collaborators, none of whom can settle on a specific sound. Opener 'NO RIGHT 2 LOVE' sounds as if it's been lopped off a Finlay Quaye remix album, while 'WWWWW?' is a baggie/big beat hybrid that's like Callahan & Witscher without the sneer. Honesty dip into manicured Bicep territory on 'U&I' and the 2-steppy 'NIGHTWORLD', but it's 'EMPTY' that provides a little relief, nailing the late-stage trip-hop sound better than most of the current gen.
