Scott Gordon - Metals (2025)

Scott Gordon (Oto Hiax, Editions Mego, Black Acre), new to Diagonal but a veteran of experimental music, makes his debut via "Metals". It's a double EP of sorts: two sides of wax with two separate titles, "And Away" on side one backed with "Tilts" on side two. The EP's aim is to explore mechanical means to seek tone, rhythm and texture via unexpected objects and instruments.The recordings feature a purpose built instrument built by Scott himself, a large motorised frame which spins metals plates that can be struck manually via midi - mechanical beaters or by hand. It's engrossing, ethereal and unexpected music. There are moments of unanticipated, involuntary beauty alongside hypnotic and mediative drones. It's deep. Get lost in it.
