March 2023 in Tongobory, Madagascar: A mobile recording studio set up under a thatched roof, surrounded by zebu, goats, and sheep in a lively village during the funeral ceremony of the elder Melo. The album *Fihisa* tells the story of a live recording project during a traditional ceremony, interrupted by a cyclone, turning everything into an unexpected adventure. It becomes the soundtrack of a wild Malagasy celebration, full of chaos and surprises.
The cast includes Damily & the Toliara Tsapiky band, a sound engineer, an ethnomusicologist with his camera, a production manager, an extended (very large) family, hundreds of guests, and Freddy, the record-breaking tropical cyclone disrupting the party. Originally planned as 8 days of recording sessions, the project was cut down to just 10 hours of raw, spontaneous takes.
