SUPERB BROADCAST RECORDING FROM NICK LOWE & HIS COWBOY OUTFIT A pivotal figure in power pop and new wave, and formerly of pub rock, Nick Lowe s string of well-reviewed solo albums and classic singles, released since the late 1970s, have seen the great man achieve the status of legend. Alongside his vocal prowess, Lowe plays a mean bass guitar, piano and harmonica. Best known for the songs Cruel to Be Kind and I Love the Sound of Breaking Glass (a top 10 UK hit), as a member of Dave Edmonds Rockpile, and his production work for Elvis Costello, Graham Parker, and others, Lowe also wrote (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding , a hit for Costello. By 1984, Lowe released his fifth solo-album, Nick Lowe & Hs Cowboy Outfit, on which he was backed by his new band of the same name. The Cowboy Outfit included Paul Carrack (formerly of Squeeze, and before that one-hit-wonders, Ace), Martin Belmont (previously with Graham Parker s Rumour), Billy Bremner from Rockpile, and Bobby Irwin - Van Morrison s one-time percussionist - on drums. Lowe and his band went out on the road shortly after the release of . Cowboy Outfit, and by February of the following year, they performed in Bremen, Germany to the delight of a much appreciative audience. The band performed a clutch of tracks from their latest LP, a couple from their next and final platter together, released in September 85, a fine section of Lowe classics, and some choice cover versions. The whole event was recorded and transmit across Germany by local radio too, and the entire show is now released on this new CD for the first time.
