José Luis Temes adds a new chapter to his tireless exploration of the lesser-known Spanish musical heritage. At the head of the Real Filharmonía de Galicia, the Madrid-born conductor has just published on disc four symphonies recently discovered in the Biblioteca Palatina in Parma (Italy) and composed by Infanta María Luisa de Borbón (1782-1824), daughter of Carlos IV, who thus became the first female composer of orchestral music in Spain.
María Luisa de Borbón was not a professional composer. Daughter of Carlos IV of Spain, queen of the ephemeral kingdom of Etruria and regent duchess of Lucca, she lived immersed in a turbulent and confusing period in the history of Europe. Despite this, she left in her four symphonies the passion of a woman of her time who did not want to be content with patronage, but chose to incorporate herself into the evolution of cultural creation. The critical edition of these symphonies is by Ana Lombardía (professor at the University of Salamanca) and is published by the Complutense Institute of Musical Sciences (ICCMU).
