THREE DISC SET FEATURING THE BEST LIVE PANTERA BROADCAST RECORDINGS AVAILABLE Formed in 1981 by the Abbott brothers - drummer Vinnie Paul and guitarist Dimebag Darrell - along with lead vocalist Terry Glaze, Pantera started life as a glam-metal band, releasing four albums independently during the 1980s. Looking for a new and heavier sound, Pantera replaced Glaze with Phil Anselmo in 1986 and released Power Metal in 88. In 1989, the band secured a record deal with major-label Atco. With their fifth album, 1990's Cowboys from Hell, Pantera introduced the groove metal genre, while its 1992 follow-up Vulgar Display of Power exhibited an even heavier sound. Tensions began to surface among the band members when Anselmo became addicted to heroin in 1995; he almost died from an overdose in 96. The ongoing tension lasted for another seven years, during which time only two studio albums were recorded. Pantera went on hiatus in 2001, but were disbanded by the Abbotts in 2003 amid communication problems and their conclusion that Anselmo would not return to the band. On December 8, 2004, Darrell was shot and killed on stage by a mentally unstable fan during a Damageplan concert in Columbus, Ohio. Vinnie Paul died of heart failure in 2018. Despite the tragic and chaotic history of Pantera, the band left behind an extraordinary back catalogue of recorded music and performed some of the finest shows in all of American rock music. This triple CD set celebrates the music of Pantera by comprising three live and rare FM broadcasts from the band, recorded at some of the finest gigs they ever played. Disc One features the band s gig in Dallas, Texas in 1988 during the early part of Pantera s career, while Disc Two continues with a show they gave at the Hollywood Palladium in 1992 (with bonus cuts from Santa Monica in 1994). Concluding this superb box set on Disc Three, is the startling set Pantera performed at the Dynamo Open Air Festival, in Eindhoven, Netherlands, on 31st May 1998.
