Steven Halpern and David Darling's collaboration is a remarkable fusion of soulful cello, keyboard virtuosity, and orchestral arrangements that open the heart and uplift the spirit. During their recording session in February 2008, Darling improvised one elegiac melody after another over Halpern’s pre-produced arrangements, creating magnificent "cathedrals" of sound—from deep, earthy tones to angelic highs. Unfortunately, due to health issues, they could not complete a full album. After Darling’s unexpected passing, Halpern continued their collaboration, drawing inspiration from dreams and meditations where he could "hear" new ways to edit and arrange Darling’s phrases. The piece *Requiem for Lahaina with Whalesong*, recorded after the devastating fires in Maui, serves as an act of healing and fundraising for those affected.
