"Retablos" is the new live album by Giua, a distinctive-voiced singer-songwriter and guitarist, and Riccardo Tesi, a renowned international accordionist. The album, blending tradition and innovation, was recorded live in November 2024 at Tiqu, Teatro Internazionale di Quartiere in Genoa, and will be available from January 24 on digital platforms and in physical format under the OrangeHomeRecords label.
Inspired by Peruvian *Retablos*—portable wooden boxes depicting religious and everyday scenes—the album reflects the duo's fascination with this art form, which they discovered during their performances in Peru in 2023. Their experience at the Italian Cultural Institute in Lima and the Gran Teatro Nacional for the Festival des Alturas marked the beginning of their collaboration.
"Retablos" merges Giua's storytelling through song with Tesi's instrumental expertise, offering a musical journey that explores emotional and geographical landscapes. The album delves into themes of memory and future, balancing melodic, lyrical, and rhythmic elements through the interplay of diatonic accordion, guitar, and voice, resulting in an intimate and refined sound.
