*Köşk* is the debut album from SINEM, a Munich-based Anadolu post-punk trio led by singer Sinem Arslan Ströbel, set to be released digitally and on vinyl by Fun in the Church on January 24, 2025. The album blends elements of Turkish heritage with post-punk energy, reflecting Sinem’s personal journey of navigating dual cultural identities.
Once working behind the scenes in Munich’s underground music scene, Sinem has now emerged as a powerful frontwoman, channeling influences from punk icons with her dynamic stage presence and expressive vocals. Growing up as the only student of Turkish descent in her Bavarian school, she experienced a divide between her cultural roots and public identity, a tension that now fuels her music.
*Köşk* explores themes of cultural integration, identity, and longing, capturing the fusion of German and Turkish influences. Sinem describes her experience of trying to conform to German expectations while feeling a deep connection to her Turkish heritage, which surfaced only during annual visits to Turkey.
