The album explores themes of permanence and the beauty of existence, blending influences from indie folk, singer-songwriter traditions, Rwandan folk music, and flamenco.
Recorded in nature’s silence, the album features ten compositions, with collaborations from Rwandan artists Ingabire Gretta and Impakanizi, as well as Catalan singer-songwriter Paula Grande. Produced at Olivera Estudi in Banyoles, Girona, by established Catalan producers Pau Brugada and Vic Moliner, the album includes contributions from musicians such as Darío Barroso (guitar), Dídac Fernández (drums/percussion), and Rwandan producer Michael Makembe.
María Cielos, originally from Barcelona, spent the past decade abroad, with seven years in Rwanda, a place deeply connected to her identity. Her music reflects an authentic, heartfelt expression, drawing inspiration from her personal journey and artistic growth. After years of self-taught poetry and music, she returned to Barcelona in 2022 to study flamenco singing.
The album’s sound combines simplicity and raw emotion, with lyrics that transport listeners to familiar emotional landscapes. Tracks like Rumuri and Mujer feature lyrics co-written with Ingabire Gretta, while Contigo ser | Imbuto y'ukuri includes contributions from Impakanizi and Michael Makembe.
