Inside Voices - If It Matters (2025)

Inside Voices had gone off the beaten track with a first album called Consecutive Normal Songs in 2018. Still, the quartet from West Monroe had incredibly surprised us with this fusion of indie rock, emo and math-rock that will continue to show us all the colors with a handful of EPs like Hide and Seek released in 2022 but also its long-awaited successor called If It Matters.

Very quickly, Inside Voices gets back on track right from the start with "The Desire" definitely intrepid. The interactions between the tandem between Tyler Jones (vocals, guitar) and Alex Stokes (guitar) will have something to turn us upside down with these very bewitching math riffs coupled with a formidable rhythm section signed Taylor Bice (bass) and Connor Matthews (drums) especially when listening to "Same Thing" or "Way Back To Myself" which follow and which allow If It Matters to start off with a bang.

Definitely energetic and sustained from start to finish, this second album by Inside Voices will not have finished showing us all the colors. Whether on "Still Cheesin'" or on "Memento", the American quartet knows how to mix rhythmic efficiency and radiant melodies without forgetting its introspective songwriting which will have something to intoxicate us with "Way Out From Here" and "Grounding" involving the brass discreetly and divinely. The emotional packaging is also on point with “Into Nothing” and the title track as a vibrant conclusion proving that Inside Voices is doubling its ambitions through this second album which is both introspective and captivating.
