Another recording of The Four Seasons? A year after ‘Concerti per una vita’, the orchestra of Le Consort, in the course of its exploration of Vivaldi, reveals the many facets of this inexhaustible cycle. To achieve this, Théotime Langlois de Swarte has held up a subtle mirror to other works by the ‘red-haired priest’. All of them perpetuate the seasons in their own way, through shared memories and impressions; in the background Lambranzi's Venetian dances complement this musical picture awash with colours!

Refreshing, in fact even spectacular !
His idea is on booklet but I wonder 4 Seasons is decisive for him ??

To be honest, I have to say that there is nothing in this recording that compels me to listen to it again. Of course it is a very good version of The Four Seasons, but I already have a countless number of very good versions (obviously all with a historical approach) of this music, and at least a dozen absolutely essential versions. And there is nothing new here. In fact the slow tempi are quite boring, the lighter ones are well played but lack fire. The continuo is nice, but not stunningly beautiful, and the soloist is very good but, within a certainly high level, at least on this disc he communicates nothing that others don't. I have heard him on much better recordings, no doubt. Surely if he and his band were to do all this live I'd be delighted to hear them, but for someone who has close to 40,000 CDs what they offer me on disc falls far short of what I'm getting. I wasn't thrilled at any point.

Happy you that enjoyed this, I found it very boring all the time... Probably as bored as he was during the sessions...
