This live album, originally released as a double-record set, succeeds in capturing the raw power and high energy that the group can actually attain in performance. Although a few songs were lost in the move from record to compact disc, the band's greatest hits are retained from their '84-'85 tour, from ballads such as "Holiday" to rock anthems like "Blackout." The album is never tedious, and all of the fourteen songs on the recording are captured with excellent authenticity. World Wide Live is by far the Scorpions' best live release, and is a must for fans of their music.
"World Wide Live" is a live album by the German band Scorpions, released in 1985. The original recording was made by Dieter Dierks. A VHS of the Scorpions' world tour was also released at the same time.
The live album was originally released as a 2LP vinyl set, in a gatefold sleeve, and on cassette. The liner notes include a list of the cast, tour dates, and the dates of the concerts recorded:
Bercy, Paris, France (1984-02-29)
The Forum, Los Angeles, CA, United States (1984-04-24 & 1984-04-25)
Sport Arena, San Diego, CA, United States (1984-04-26)
Pacific Amphitheatre, Costa Mesa, CA, United States (1984-04-28)
Sporthalle, Cologne, West Germany (1984-11-17)
This means that the songs were not recorded at one concert; several performances were recorded, and after much discussion among the members, the specific recordings were selected and finally compiled into a double album.
The first CD release contained 15 songs (the first and second parts of "Another Piece of Meat", "Six-String Sting" and "Can't Get Enough" due to time constraints). (This is somewhat vague, as the initial pressings only provided 63 minutes of playing time; the shortened concert CD was 67 minutes...)
The full-length album was first released in Japan in 1991 (on 2 discs, like the LP release), and a 1997 remixed edition contained the entire playing time of the original album on one CD.
In 2001, EMI re-released all of the early albums in remastered form, with a unified cover concept.
