But there was a possible problem - wasn't San Francisco's New Year's Eve slot by now the exclusive property of the Grateful Dead? In 1973, it appeared not! And further, some-time after midnight, Jerry Garcia and Bill Kreutzmann joined the Allman Brothers onstage, which at the time seemed to cement a synergistic relationship between the two bands that became enshrined in rock history. • This superb three-disc boxed set, with a run time of just over four hours, captures the entire show broadcast that legendary night, closing in on 50 years ago, which captures the band, by now all-but fully recovered from the deaths of Duane Allman and Berry Oakley in the years before this majestic performance.
