POST-WOODSTOCK LIVE RADIO BROADCASTS FROM TYA
Released in February 1969, Ten Years After’s sophomore studio LP, Stonedhenge, was a massive hit in the UK, reaching an impressive No.6 on the British album chart. Featuring Alvin Lee’s ‘Hear Me Calling’, released as a single and later covered by Glam Rockers, the album was TYA’s first of four top 10 records, all released in 1969 or 1970, a time during which the band were one of the UK’s finest live and studio acts. On 17 August 1969, Ten Years After performed a breakthrough set at the original Woodstock festival; their rendition of ‘I'm Going Home’ was featured in both the subsequent film and soundtrack album and catapulted the group to star status.
Post-Woodstock, TYA released Ssssh, their third studio record, which remains the most successful of the band’s career, ultimately reaching No.4 in the UK. They toured across Europe for the remainder of 1969, and it is during this period that the shows featured on this CD were recorded, both for live radio broadcast. On November 14th they performed in Cologne, Germany and on December 5th, in Finland’s capital city Helsinki.
Both these performances are released here for the first time in superb quality, proving what an extraordinary and enticing group Ten Years After had become by this juncture.
