Ryuichi Sakamoto - GOHATTO (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) (1999)

"Gohatto" is the latest work by Oshima Nagisa, the pride of Japan for "Diary of a Shinjuku Thief". Oshima Nagisa, who created an era in the film industry, has appointed Matsuda Ryuhei, the son of the late Matsuda Yusaku, and Beat Takeshi, who is well known for "Senmei", to star in this work, and of course the music is by Sakamoto Ryuichi. It's been 13 years since "Senmei" and this is the first time they've worked together. In September 1999, YMO's best album was released, and it's so fresh that you'd think there is no artist in the Japanese pop scene today who can beat YMO. Sakamoto Ryuichi has been making headlines recently with the big hit "ENERGY FLOW" and the opera "LIFE", but this work is sure to be a hit. From simple but memorable melodies on piano and synthesizers to bold songs that also use an orchestra, this is a soulful work in which his unique worldview matches the images.
