Les Disques Bongo Joe is reissuing Au Revoir, the debut album by Société Étrange, first released in 2015 on the Lyon-based label S.K. Records. This Lyon trio—Antoine Bellini (electronics), Romain Hervault (bass), and later joined by Jonathan Grandcollot (percussion)—creates minimalist instrumental soundscapes with a focus on repetition and tension.
The album was recorded during the group’s early days when Antoine and Romain, working as a duo, experimented with drum machines and electronic sounds inspired by 80s post-punk, the grooves of Neu! and Cluster, and the DIY ethos of early hip-hop. Their music is hypnotic and immersive, balancing electronic layers and winding bass lines to evoke a sense of uncertainty and allure.
The reissue includes two new recordings: a reworked version of Voiturin à Phynance, now titled Voiturin à Fifinance, featuring Jonathan's organic and melodic percussive style, and an unreleased track, Blanchard, which showcases a more spontaneous and freeform aspect of their sound.
