The group Matachindé was created in 2010 with the aim of preserving and enriching the traditional music of the Jurumangui River and the South Pacific of Colombia. The group's founders, Hisela and Jessica Angulo Aramburo, were sociologists and folklorists. They started the group with 10 participants from the village of Juntas de Jurumangui and then recruited young people from other communities.
Over time, the group began to attract more and more participants and now has 17 members, including the director. The name of the group is related to the cultural celebration of the Jurumangui River known as “manasillo”. The group has participated in various folklore and cultural events at local, regional and national levels. They were recognized at the Petronio Alvarez Zonal Festival in 2018 and 2019, where they placed second in the category of traditional songs and marimba music. In 2022, the group won second place at the Petronio Alvarez Festival, and in 2023 they won first place in that category. Matachindé continues to actively participate in national folkloric events.
