On November 29, Days Between Stations (keyboardist Oscar Fuentes Bills and guitarist Sepand Samzadeh) will be releasing “Perpetual Motion Machines (Music for a Film).”
This album started life as a soundtrack for a documentary film about artist Jean-Paul Bourdier, and after creative differences with the film producers, the band salvaged the project by turning it into a “proper” album. All of the instrumental pieces are cues from the intended soundtrack, written and performed by Oscar and Sepand. Durga McBroom sings on the final song “Being,” with a music video released the same day as the album (Nov. 29, 2024)
The music video, showing Jean-Paul Bourdier at work, for the instrumental “Seeds” will be released October 18.
Some of this music originated from an early version of the film soundtrack in the mid-2010s. The band’s good friend and engineer "Big" Bill Kaylor engineered those early sessions. Bill was involved with their previous albums 2007’s “Days Between Stations,” 2013’s “In Extremis,” and 2020’s “Giants.” Bill passed away in 2023, and “Perpetual Motion Machines” is dedicated to Bill's memory. The album was produced and recorded by Navon Weisberg.
The band will be releasing a live album in 2025, and are in the studio for more music. "Perpetual Motion Machines” is the sound of Oscar and Sepand, without co-writers, and without other musicians (save for “Being”).
