The dandelion is a plant we are all familiar with; it adorns meadows and fields and goes through several stages of development until its ripe seeds are carried off by the wind to be scattered across the landscape. The Dandelion Quintett takes its name from the flower and has also adopted some of its qualities. The woodwind quintet combines virtuosity and joy of playing with natural ease to create a brightly colored soundscape.
The pieces assembled on the debut album Windspiel are representative of the ensemble’s repertoire: classic composers of new music – specifically, György Ligeti and Samuel Barber – meet experimental and inspiring contemporary composers, namely Simon Popp, Ralph Heidel and Henrik Ajax. Past meets present in the certainty that we will be hearing a lot more from the Dandelion Quintett in future.
