On the "Chase & Sanborn" radio programme of July 4,1943, the three original Whiteman Rhythm Boys were reunited with the great band-leader himself. Reminiscing about their early years together and how they came to meet the so-called 'King Of Jazz', they loosely re-enacted their 1927 audition. Whiteman asked them "Are you guys any good, What are your names?" Hopeful number one replied "Well, I'm Harry Barris, I sing like Bing Crosby." Then from hopeful number two, "I'm Al Rinker, I sing like Bing Crosby too." Whiteman quipped "Well, what about you - you there with the awning?" Came the reply "I'm Bing Crosby, I sing like Dick Todd". It's doubtful if Todd ever received a better compliment coming, as it did, from the best known and most popular songster of the period.
