Marian McPartland - The Concord Jazz Heritage Series (1998)

Marian McPartland, who recorded for Concord for over 20 years, recorded many different types of projects for the label. To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Concord came out with a large series of single-disc samplers in 1998, including this look at pianist McPartland's recordings. The dozen selections are taken from 12 different sets and include trio outings; tributes to Mary Lou Williams, Billy Strayhorn, and Benny Carter; a duet date with fellow pianist George Shearing; a guest appearance by Chris Potter; and a version of her "Silent Pool" in which McPartland is joined by a string orchestra.
