Mr. Mitch aka Miles Mitchell is a key figure in the evolution of London electronic music returns with his fourth record, recording again as Mr. Mitch following a stream of EPs under the club focused alter ego DJ Cuddles.
“Mr. Mitch albums have always been an honest reflection of my personal life” explains Miles; “The Lost Boy is no different to that, owing largely to a turbulent few years in professional and music life. A loss of a life-enhancing day job coupled with a major slow down in demand for live shows caused me to question my identity; who am I without these roles that I have used to define myself?”
“My last album ‘Lazy’ was my most successful yet in terms of sales and streams” continues Mr. Mitch “also receiving support from DJ’s through to large names like Thom Yorke and Cillian Murphy. Yet I was not in the headspace to release music as Mr. Mitch, I created DJ Cuddles as a fun and functional alternative to the honesty of Mr. Mitch. Two events happened this year that finally inspired me to tap back in to Mr. Mitch helped me to understand the music I had been making.”
“I travelled to Nigeria at the beginning of the year to celebrate a friend's birthday but visits to the home of artist Demas Nwoko and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture were particularly inspiring. Walking through the grounds of the IITA listening to Portishead and the juxtaposition of the sonic and visual environments somehow brought me to tears. The second event was the passing of my father. A man who has been a great inspiration to me my whole life. Events happen that we may not be able to put into words but they change us nonetheless. His passing was the closing sentence to my chapter as The Lost Boy.”
