‘Cookin’ in the Couve’ was an absolute blast to put together. Cory Weeds and I had been half-joking about recording an album with that title for a few years, and when I heard the rough mixes back I knew this one was it! The two nights leading up to the recording session we performed at Frankie’s Jazz Club in downtown Vancouver which was a perfect warm up for the studio, exploring our chosen repertoire in front of a live audience and getting a chance to fine tune our groove. I’m stoked to have with me on this album the A-team rhythm section of Neal Miner on bass and Aaron Seeber on drums, a combo that makes is pretty much impossible NOT to swing, and we had a ball that whole weekend hanging out in ‘the ‘Couve,’ exploring the city and making some good music. I’m proud to present a few new original compositions on this recording as well (including the title track), alongside a mix of some of my favorite blues-heavy standards. We hope the joyfulness of the recording session comes through in the audio tracks.. Thanks for listening!
