Long-time collaborators Winter McQuinn (Sunfruits, jade imagine) and Acacia Pip (PINCH POINTS, Slush) announce a split EP and a new single Working On Me, which is out now. Recently I’ve Been Missing The Colour Green is a collection of six songs that the pair has been working on over the past few years. It epitomizes their growing appreciation for the softer side of pastoral folk, indie rock, and other emotionally-driven, vulnerable songwriting styles. For fans of Courtney Barnett, Cut Worms, Cool Sounds and the like, this EP showcases the pair honing their knack for witty and thoughtful lyricism on themes of existentialism, daily struggles, and introspection. Recorded primarily on 2” tape in their home studio, the EP exudes a warm, cosy feel that complements its vulnerable lyrics and delicate melodies.

The EP explores themes of balancing working, creating and living in Naarm/Melbourne, crafted during the pandemic. The songs tackle themes of isolation, introspection and the important things in life, in a surprisingly light and optimistic way. The gentle sonic landscape and lyrical content emphasize doing your best, appreciating the little things, and being kind to yourself.

The lead single Working On Me is an upbeat indie folk track that describes rejecting learned behaviours like unnecessary apologising and comparing yourself to others, as well as questioning the idea of success and happiness in a capitalist world. “I’m just doing what I can” is the refrain of self-acceptance that closes out each chorus. Acacia, who takes the lead vocals on Working On Me, describes exploring a softer vocal style as a vulnerable shift from her punkier background, but one that was a fun and rewarding challenge. Stylistically, this track showcases a different sphere of her songwriting sensibilities and music taste.
