“Multimedia performance Folkmosis is Beth Malcom's musical autobiography, recounting her childhood, discovery and immersion in traditional Scottish music and her native Scottish language. The album contains 20 tracks that combine song and spoken word, exploring the theme of our belonging to ourselves and connections to the land and language through music. The first act includes classic folk songs as well as spoken passages that describe different moments and memories in Malcom's life. The second act deals with teenage rejection and develops in a looser and more melodic manner. The album touches on themes such as love, loss and the meaning of life. Beth Malcom, with the support of producer Dorian Cloudesley and other musicians, has created an ambitious project that brings a fresh perspective to Scottish folk music and its importance in the culture.”
