Mango Wood is a band from Madrid focused on the Jamaican Golden Years. The name is an ode to the mento and calypso ensembles in the 50’s. The name was used in sayings, proverbs and was portrayed in so many songs throughout the years. Their powerful vocal section recalls various bands of the end of the 60’s like Bleechers, Kingstonians, Versatiles, etc. Its solid instrumental section gives the group a very characteristic vintage sound. The band members are veterans from the city’s reggae scene with over 20 years in several bands, parties, sound systems and more. The way this album was recorded, mixed & mastered emulates the means and techniques used in the late 60’s in Jamaica and UK. We want to thank all the people, labels, radios, promoters and collectives that have supported us over the years. We wouldn’t have made this far without you. Want to thank former band members for sharing this journey all along the way, there is a piece of you in this album. In an era that fast means better, we wanted to pay tribute to a different way of doing things. A music attached to the skinhead subculture means that is alive, looking at the past but with a stomp at the present. …This is the Sound of Now!
