In the series "Better late than never", a little Hispanic treat from 2009...
We almost ended up believing that New York held the exclusive rights when it came to Soul retro. And yet no. And even if the origin may at first seem incongruous, it is indeed from Spain that The Pepper Pots and their sweet sixties Soul come. Sweet? Sweet how? Like a nougat which saturates the throat with honey and which diabetics refuse to approach within 100 meters? Rather sweet like Motown. Like a sparkling treat that we first suck without pretension, telling ourselves that it’s not bad but not sure that we’ll come back to it. And then we chain together the cartons. Three feminine flavors mixed together, mellow bass, light strings, layers of brass and nuggets of keyboards. Not bad at all after all! We are even surprised to come across bursts of Jamaican music with aromas of Ska dances from Sir Coxsone Dodd's Studio One. In their sonic and visual aesthetic fidelity to the 60's, The Pepper Pots could have given in to rancid and expired candied fruit, instead they created one of those candies that we seem to have known forever, which brings no surprises major but which easily stands out in the middle of all these shelves dripping with syrup and fluorescent marshmallow.
