krautfuzz - 5 (2024) [Hi-Res]

BAND/ARTIST: krautfuzz

The album, entitled “5”, documents the 5th studio session by the seminal band krautfuzz, emphasizing the talents of Japanese drummer Imari Kokubo, German guitarist Dirk Dresselhaus, and Canadian bassist Derek Shirley, and features processed electric sitar overdubs by guest Chandra Shukla (aka Xambuca), who also happens to exclusively head the label the vinyl LP edition of the album is available on, EROTOTOX DECODINGS (tba). As all the musicians in krautfuzz hail from diverse musical backgrounds, including activities with the likes of faust, Vladislav Delay Quartet, die ANGEL, Schneider TM, Piratezombiedog, Monno, The Still, or Hi-Speed Dubbing, their premise is to boil down stylistic concepts into an essence that consists of playing highly adventurous, energetic music with a sense of timelessness free from safety nets and predictable formats. This while giving extra attention to mutual communication between the members by including acoustic cues shared with each other while also assuming musical communication by means of telepathy and innate understanding of where to go next on the unseen sonic map. krautfuzz is embedded with an angular-futuristic perspective, spanning from fuzzed-out neo-psych-rock to the abstract, heavily processed minimalism to pure noise, and is open at the fringes to the utilisation of unusual approaches in the studio as well as employing the element of surprise by including guest performers at their live shows (who usually appear in the 2nd set of their performances). The cover artwork was done by visual artist iLan katin, who is a regular collaborator and responsible for the live video pieces featured at the krautfuzz live shows.
