Max Steiner, an Austrian-born film composer and prodigy who grew up in a wealthy musical family, left an indelible mark on Hollywood's golden age of film music.
Steiner later contributed to the landmark soundtracks for Casablanca (1942), First Time Traveler (1942) and Mildred Pierce (1945) and composed the studio's famous opening fanfare. His work, active until the mid-1960s, included soundtracks for the films Mutiny on Caine (1954), The Seekers (1955), and A Summer Place (1959). Although his once-innovative style eventually gave way to evolving musical trends, Max Steiner is still revered as a seminal figure in film music, combining narrative depth with musical mastery.
