Janette King is a Caribbean-Canadian alternative RnB artist whose work often explores the intersections of identity, love, and self-discovery. Her debut LP What We Lost landed her acclaim in, among others, Complex & Hypebeast as well as performance opportunities which include Montreal Jazz Fest, Ottawa Blues Fest, Noise Pop and support slots for Cupcakke, Sudan Archives, & Jamila Woods.
Montreal-via-Vancouver R&B monarch Janette King has announced her sophomore album, previewed by new single "This Might Be It."
Produced by Jonny Tobin, it's the follow-up to the Exclaim! New Faves alum's 2021 debut, What We Lost. According to press notes, Incantation "delves into themes of self-discovery, queer love and relationships, conflict and empowerment."
The record features this spring's "Paradise" as well as today's "This Might Be It." Of the new single, King said, "It's a song about personal or universal quest for self-discovery and fulfillment. It reflects on the challenges of the journey, the internal struggles of feeling lost and the hope for finding something that brings true happiness and purpose. The repeated imagery of searching and finding is a deep, introspective exploration of life's meaning and the human desire to feel whole and alive. To find your true self."
Packing a breezy punch with a funky bassline and vintage neo-soul atmospherics, "This Might Be It" arrives alongside a music video filmed in the artist's home province, directed and edited by Ken McDonald. Find that below, as well as the album tracklist details.
