Featuring some of the UK’s most exciting underground talent collaborating with indigenous artists from across the globe, Echoes organically flows with a variety of sounds and perspectives, creatively directed by artist and curator Lexy Morvaridi. Anja Ngozi and Oki Kano collaborate on two tracks, "Utanobori '' and "Tonkori Dub," commissioned by the British Council. "Utanobori'', the album's first single, is a cinematic backdrop enhanced by Oki’s meditative playing. Whilst "Tonkori Dub'' blends Oki’s Ainu heritage with Anja's Jamaican background, creating a unique fusion of dub and the traditional instrument, the Tonkori. ãssia ghendir, Coby Sey, and Talitnnite Ouaouani combine their talents in a meditative water prayer to the desert, merging ãssia’s hypnotic vocals, Coby’s delicate production, and the ancient sounds of the Imzad played by Talitnnite Ouaouani. OMOTE and MCMO present a trip-hop inspired lament on the climate crisis, while Damsel Elysium and Vivian Guyrá deliver an 8-minute epic piece that intertwines acoustic and electronic elements with spoken word, reflecting the symbiotic relationship between the body and land from Vivian’s indigenous perspective through dance and movement. An accompanying short film of their collaboration explores the themes of the album through choreography collaborating with the land. AZADI.mp3 and Divide and Dissolve offer "Echoes of Silence," a 2-minute track of sub frequencies, glitchy samples, and poignant vocals that capture the urgency and pain of the climate catastrophe affecting indigenous people and the environment.
