Iranian artist Mahsa Vahdat and her seven students have created songs that have been arranged as duets between the students and Norwegian singer Kjersti Kveli. These songs are featured on a new album called Growing Songs. In Iran, due to the tyrannical regime, the musical landscape has dried up and women are not allowed to reveal their voices. However, Mahsa Vahdat has created an oasis where she and her students can create songs. The oasis extends from Iran to Iranian diasporas around the world. The album is also a mix of Iranian and Norwegian artists, and the melodies have been adapted for Kjersti Kveli's voice. The lyrics, written by Iranian poets, have been translated into Norwegian. The album features piano, bass and Iranian flute, and the work created is a mixture of the two cultures. The album was produced by Mahsa Vahdat and Erik Hillestad, and is part of a long-term music and education project funded by Arts and Culture Norway.
