Hemlock is the swamp-raised "phone-fi" alt-folk project of swamp-raised, multi-disciplinary creative force Carolina Chauffe and various rotating collaborators, currently anchored between Chicago, Austin, and Louisiana, but more often on the road. Upcoming album ‘444’ comes out 10/11/24, featuring all-star Chicago band Bailey, Jack, & Andy (members of Friko, Free Range, Red PK)
Album '444' is Hemlock's second release this year and consists of reimagined selections from Caroline Shoffe's 12 year old folk-folk project. The songs that make up this album were previously released as solo iPhone recordings. The album is an archive of selected tracks reimagined and re-recorded with a group of musicians during an intensive studio session in Chicago. This work was created with an acute dedication and includes members of the Chicago music scene. The album expresses a desire to “shake, not stir” and was documented the week before the musicians left Chicago and hit the road. It's an experimental work on an expanded sonic horizon, sometimes jagged but still tender. The album displays a heart full of hope and beyond folk.
