In 1991, Nathalie Loriers represented the RTBF television channel in a jazz tournament, and walked away with first position thanks to the composition “Dance or Die”. The tune has since become a favourite in concert, and is now the title track for a new collection of material.
When the first album (“Nympheas”-IGL088) was released, it was hailed as a masterpiece. “Dance or Die”, however, introduced new elements. The American rhythm section Cameron Brown and Rick Hollander bring new energy to the project. The transformation is almost complete with the addition of Jeroen Van Herzeele – the “angry young tenor” – on sax. The contrasting atmospheres, the breaks, the declaration of independence of an artist are at all times blessed with the magic of a sublime feel for the piano, by an inner voice that can sometimes be heard faintly behind the piano.
