Fredrik Kronkvist - On the Move (2017) [Hi-Res]

The Cronquist Quartet consists of the equally versatile pianist Martin Siestedt and drummer Gregory Hutchinson, who previously sounded in the context of Cronquist. The bassist is Amin Salim, who last performed in trumpeter Roy Hargrove's band during the Ystad Jazz Festival in 2014. In the Cronquist quartet, he takes the first place, where he shows how to play the bass. These four highly competent jazzmen perform eleven explosive original compositions by Cronquist. On The Move is a newly created urban music in which four experienced quartet members together give a sample of how it can sound if you deviate a little from the usual formula of wind instruments plus accompaniment. It may be a little far-fetched, but I still like to hear here how a hundred dizzying years of what we call jazz today are connected together with the collective improvisational music that was once released in New Orleans. Keep this in mind when listening to march-oriented music, as in a miniature Laid-Back Move, or when Tyner's Island carefully borrows dance rhythms from the Caribbean. Cronkvist makes extensive use of his soprano saxophone, and perhaps with its help he achieves an even more beautiful tone than with the alto. "Levitation" is Hutchinson's performance number. Abstract Move is another miniature, as well as jazz-rock, completing the Next Move. On The Move is a kind of modally colored suite built on a series of phrases or themes, shorter (Moves) and longer, and in which harmonics are often repeated. With On The Move, Fredrik Kronqvist has undoubtedly created music with a long shelf life. Recommended!
