Swan Lake was the first of Tchaikovsky's three full-length ballets and had its premiere in Moscow in 1875. In its music it represents the height of Romantic ballet in a colourful and evocative score that reflects the palace celebrations of the Prince's coming of age and evokes the nocturnal mystery of the forest and of the bewitched Swan Princess.
