One of the biggest pop stars of the early '60s, Brenda Lee was a musical prodigy whose versatility was evidenced not just with the pop ballads that were her biggest hits, but also with her performances of straight country, R&B and some surprisingly fierce rockabilly. In a very natural manner, Brenda Lee effortlessly emotes an energy and feeling that ranges from heartbreak to fiery passion. When we look back and think of country artists like Hank Williams, Jim Reeves, and Patsy Cline as singing the "country blues", Lee established a style that can only be referred to as "country soul."
